The summer in City C doesn't even rank in the top ten hottest cities in the nation, but why does Qian Ailei feel like she's being baked to the core tonight? Dressed in her lab coat, she glances at the wall clock. It's nearing two in the morning.

Tonight, she is on duty. The hospital where she works is the most well-known private hospital in City C and thus the patients she treats are quite influential within the city. As a result, Qian Ailei treats all patients with utmost dedication, daring not to fall short. Perhaps, the reason she feels exceptionally hot tonight is due to having a surplus of patients to look after.

Usually, the number of patients she treated fluctuated between two to three. However, a few days ago, a doctor from her department was transferred and they hadn't yet found a replacement. Consequently, her responsibility quadrupled overnight, increasing to six patients. Learning about three more patients from scratch had her slightly vexed tonight.

Leaving the on-duty doctor's office, she takes up checklists and begins her rounds in the patient rooms - tasks that nurses would generally perform. However, due to her special patients, whose families specifically demanded the head doctor do all the work, she had little say.

Qian Ailei didn't have the opportunity to refute as the director had already agreed. After doing the rounds and ensuring all the patients were stable, her nerves finally started to relax. Due to the lack of surgeons, she hadn't had a rest in nearly a day.

Now she finally gets the chance to take a nap in her office. Walking down the long corridors of the hospital, where ghost stories never seemed to fade, an overly tired Qian Ailei is oblivious to the sudden drop in temperature around her signifying something awry happening soon.

Entering her office, her footfalls disappear in the hospital corridors.

This wealthy private hospital provided each on-duty doctor an independent office. Her office wasn't near the entrance. If there was an emergency tonight, another on-duty doctor would handle that. She could finally get a break.

Taking off her lab coat, she slumps onto her office desk on folded arms, ready to doze off. She did not know how long she had been asleep when there was a forceful knock on her office door. The banging noise was akin to a sudden clap of thunder in the middle of the night, jolting the sleeping into wakefulness.

She jerked awake and, after a second, reacted that it must be an emergency case. Quickly getting up to grab her lab coat hanging nearby, her just-relaxed nerves were immediately put on high alert. However, the coat hanger got caught on the hanger, which had never happened before.

It seemed the person outside couldn't wait any longer. With louder banging and accompanying cursing, "Damn it! What the hell are you doing in there? Are you a doctor or not? Time is life, are you laying an egg in there?” Upon hearing such curse words, Qian Ailei's brow furrowed. This person was definitely a bandit!

She finally got her lab coat down but one button came off due to her excessive force. Time waits for no one, so she quickly did up her other buttons.

Just as she was about to open the door, the high-quality wooden door of her office was kicked open by the person outside. The door lock was distorted due to the intense force and the door panel was severely damaged. If Qian Ailei had taken a step forward, she surely would have been struck by the kicked-open door.
